Collection and treatment of gases: Prevent hazards

With regard to controlling gases, the Directive includes the following requirements:

• Appropriate measures will be taken to control their emission.
• All controlled tips that receive biodegradable waste will collect the gases generated and these will be treated and used. If the gas collected cannot be used for producing energy, this must be burned.
• The collection, treatment and use of landfill gases will be performed in such a way as to minimise any damage or deterioration to the environment and the risks for the health of human beings.
